Amount in 2026

Since January 1, 2026, the quota has been R$ 67.54 per child, for those with a monthly pay of up to R$ 1,980.38 (INSS, Brazil's social security institute). Above that amount, there is no salário-família. Those who have more than one job add up their contribution salaries.

Who receives it

• employees, including domestic workers, and casual workers (avulsos);
• for each child, stepchild or minor under guardianship who is under 14, or who has a disability, of any age;
• both parents, when both meet the requirements;
• also those retired for permanent disability (aposentadoria por incapacidade permanente) or by age (aposentadoria por idade), and other retirees from age 65, for men, or 60, for women, with children in these conditions (Lei 8.213/1991, art. 65).

Employees request the salário-família from their employer; casual workers, from the union or the labor management body (órgão gestor de mão de obra); those receiving a retirement benefit or auxílio por incapacidade temporária (sickness benefit), from the INSS. The documents asked for are each child's birth certificate, the vaccination card up to age 6 and proof of school attendance from age 4 (INSS).
