Brazil Bolsa Família calculator: how much your family receives

How the amount is calculated

• Renda de Cidadania (citizenship income): R$ 164 per family member.
• Top-up (Complemento): if the sum of the Renda de Cidadania falls below R$ 691, the program pays the difference. The floor applies to that sum; the benefits per child and per pregnant woman come on top.
• Primeira Infância (early childhood): R$ 173 per child aged 0 to 6.
• Variável Familiar (family variable benefit): R$ 58 per pregnant woman (up to the 9th payment), per mother of a baby under 7 months (up to the 6th payment) and per child or teenager aged 7 to 17.

The total is rounded up to the next whole real (Decreto 12.064/2024, art. 21, with the values of Decreto 13.120/2026).

The October 2026 increase

The values were raised by 15.04%, the inflation measured by the INPC (the national consumer price index) from March 2023 to August 2026, with effect from October 1, 2026. Until September, they were R$ 142 per person, a minimum of R$ 600, R$ 150 per child up to age 6 and R$ 50 in the Variável Familiar (MDS, Brazil's social development ministry). Who can receive it

Families registered in the Cadastro Único (the government's registry for social programs) with an income of up to R$ 218 per person per month (Lei 14.601/2023, art. 5º). The family income is the sum of everyone's earnings, not counting Bolsa Família itself, other social assistance benefits and occasional benefits (benefícios eventuais); the BPC (Benefício de Prestação Continuada) is counted (art. 4º).

Protection rule

A family that already receives the benefit and comes to have an income above R$ 218 per person stays in the program with half the amount for up to 12 months, as long as the income does not exceed R$ 706 per person; if someone has a stable income, such as a retirement benefit, a pension or the BPC-Idoso (the BPC for older people), the period is 2 months. Families that were already under the protection rule before the 2025 change follow the previous rule: up to half a minimum wage per person, for up to 24 months (Portaria MDS nº 1.084/2025, according to Agência Brasil).

What the calculator does not consider

The Benefício Extraordinário de Transição (extraordinary transition benefit), for families that came from Auxílio Brasil; the suspension for not meeting the health and education conditions; and the review of each family's registration, which is done by the MDS and sets the amount each one receives.
